POWER YOGA FEEDBACK THROUGH EMAIL:

Hi Mark,
I'm 52, male, and an old fitness buff from the 80's and 90's. I let myself go at the turn of the millenium, but in 2004, I was diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer. To make a long story short, the doctors got rid of the cancer, but it has been a slow road to rebuilding my health and stamina.
I ordered your Progressive Power Yoga DVD set about six months ago.  Bottom line:  It works for me.
In two months my body was transformed from an exhausted, stooped over, chemo-ridden "old man" to the "Me" I haven't seen in 15 years.
The reason I think it works for me is your emphasis on never striving to achieve the next level.
I only do what I can. And I do it, "Softly." Then I just wait. And my body unfolds like a flower.
Thank you, Mark.  Cancer is a brutal beast. But you have helped me pull a few of its teeth.

• • • • •
Hello Mark,
I wanted to say thank you for creating those wonderful Progressive Power Yoga series DVDs.  I have been practicing yoga for 8 years now (on and off) but after the birth of my son I began to practice much more religiously.  He is now almost 3 years old and practises with me.  He even knows some of the terms.  Very cute.  I plan to make sure yoga is always in his life and hope that he decides to pursue it as a lifestyle and hobby.

Your DVDs have inspired me even more.  I simply love them.  I have been using them three times per week for 3 years now and still find them challenging enough.  Always, after completing them I feel refreshed, strong, energized and happy.   I have tried other yoga DVDs and they simply do not hold up to yours.  I need something as challenging as the Progressive Power Yoga DVDs.
Namaste

POWER YOGA FEEDBACK ON AMAZON:

The Best Yoga DVDs ever!!!
April 14, 2006
Reviewer:
N. Tannous "Anat0liths"

If you want to buy a yoga dvd, Mark Blanchard's dvds are the best. Even his new Arizona ones are brilliant. You cannot get a workout any better than this. These dvds work every muscle in your body, including your abdominals and neck/spine muscles, and the poses go beyond beginners level, so it's good for any level student. It takes a couple times to get used to the workout, but once you get the hang of it, you will lose weight quickly and tone up and align every muscle in your body to the point of sincere pain the next day; good pain (as Blanchard says, "the kind that makes you smile"), as opposed to the bad kind you get with weight lifting. If I had infinite thumbs, that's how many Blanchard would get. It truly brings out the athlete in you by developing functional muscles that also look good! Much better than Rodney Yee or Brian Kest's workouts, simply because of the increased difficulty level and the speed of the workout; Blanchard moves more subtly between poses and you will definitely appreciate this when you see the difference. I have yet to learn much about Baron Baptiste however, but I hear good things.

Made me a believer.

As an avid outdoor cross trainer, I had an aversion to working out indoors. But when mother nature whould choose to rain on my parade, I had to find another way. A friend introduced me to Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga. Having never done Yoga before, I was more than a bit skeptical. I had this preconceived notion of a wiry old bearded man gently humming in a room with wafting incense. Boy was I suprised!
Not only was I physically challenged, but the tapes themselves made me feel as if I was in the class I was watching. As Blanchard moves about the class, his presence comes through the screen. I was hooked! But before I purchased his DVD, I tried other yoga workout DVD's, just to make sure this was the program for me. NONE COULD COMPARE!
With Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga, I didn't need to see if I was using the right "level of Yoga" for me. It didn't matter. Plus Blanchard's enthusiasm for Yoga genuine. Which is more than I can say for the feeling I got from the other yoga DVD's by the "name brand Yogi's".
Bottom line is, Mark Blanchard's Power Yoga, made a believer out of me. BRAVO! And job well done!!

Great Videos, Great Teacher
March 27, 2006

As a yoga teacher and a long-time practitioner with Mark Blanchard, these are the videos I personally practice with at home and recommend to all of my students. The videos are only as difficult as you make them and are for everyone, no matter where you are in your yoga. As Mark says, "Just come to the mat honestly and do the best you can do." It doesn't matter what you can do or what you can't do. Whatever you can do is enough. It's not about being able to do the whole practice perfectly, and you will see that with Mark himself in the videos. It's not about judging yourself or anyone else in the practice, but accepting where you are on your own journey. Mark's videos offer a complete practice, allowing you to work on opening the body and the mind in ways you may never have dreamed of. They are all about bringing the body and mind into balance and ultimately your life into balance. Mark's sense of humor and honesty is refreshing. He is a true modern yogi who is always honest and true to himself and honors this 5,000 year old practice.

Mark Blanchard is by far the most challenging instructor I have seen in the yoga world. I have done many exercise and yoga tapes in the past, and I can say, hands down, he physically pushes you like no other. My body and mind have transformed in such a positive way that I won't be giving up his practice any time soon. I took these DVD's to Fiji with me over vacation knowing that I would be over indulging with meals and sugary drinks. I didn't gain any weight at all! I came back from my trip possibly looking better than when I left, and won the limbo contest thanks to him! I'm strong, flexible, and more open-minded since this experience, and am very grateful to have something physically challenging in my life that is fun and positive!

The Toughest Power Yoga Series
January 8, 2006
Reviewer:
Yoni (Israel)

I was surprised to see this on amazon, it was previously available only at his website which is where I bought it. This is the TOUGHEST yoga I have ever done and I have a big collection of yoga videos from Bryan Kest to Shiva Rea to Baron Baptiste and more. Each one of the dvd's has more than 90 minutes yoga practice which is thorough and tough , it's starts with about 60 minute of intense standing poses with vinyasas in between and some arm balances thrown in and then a 30 minutes of seated potures and some ab work ,inversions, headstand and savasana. Each DVD is similar in structure but each one offers some different poses from the other to prevent boredom in the practice as they suggest in the advertisement , so this series does not offer different level practices that progresses gradually although you may find one easier than the other .They suggest it's for all people and all levels (probably to increase sales) but I think it will be too much for beginners and people who are not in good shape and even for intermediates because this is a real hardcore practice , the pace in most of the workouts is pretty moderate except some push ups & jump bursts that creates heat and strength in the upper body ,but some of the poses are held long, like the half moon series, which really makes your leg and rear muscles scream. Each dvd also has a 30 minute instructional segment in which he gives some pointers and modifications for some of the poses (this segment is identical in all of the dvds). The set is simple and even a little cheap looking (not very important) ,there's a few studetns of all genders and ages including Mark's mom and a kid and from time to time he'll be checking they're doing the poses correctly ,most of the time he'll be doing the practice with them, also ther'es no music in the background. So if you want a long and challenging yoga practices you'll probbably like this series.

POWER YOGA FEEDBACK IN FORUMS:

Mark Blanchard New DVD set (Sedona) – First Impressions
I just got this set yesterday and have done the first DVD: Foundations. I’ll report on the others as I do them.
The reason I got them so quick is because they upgraded my shipping for free. Very nice customer service in my book!
I have been doing Mark Blanchard’s VHS and DVDs for years now. I have his “The Power Within” and “Embracing Power Yoga” as well as his three volume set “Progressive Power Yoga” and so them all on a regular basis.
His style is power yoga and I would put him in the same bucket as Baron Baptiste, Bryan Kest, and Eoin Finn. However, each of these yogis has their own style and Mark also has a unique style. His sequences are different from other media practices that I own. He goes fast sometimes, slow sometimes. He has a nice savasana and a slow warmup in most practices. His practices are very intense – none of these are for beginners IMHO (although he shows an athletic person doing it for the first time in Foundations)– and he doesn’t give a load of alignment instructions, but does give some. His past media has all been a class filmed from start to finish with his instruction. Music is sometimes there but not a big part of the practice and there always seems to be at least one airplane I can hear during the practice.
This set consists of five practices – Foundation (85 min), Core (48 min), Stretch (60 min), Flow (60 min), and Culmination (98 min). They are filmed outside in beautiful surrounds of Sedona – a rich red canyon. The background sound I think is of the canyon with birds singing and breezes blowing and yes an occasional airplane overhead! There are six or so students of varying levels in the Foundation.
The Foundation practice is fast moving. The sequence is new to me and there a few new poses but Mark presents some new poses I haven’t seen before. The first hour is all standing poses and the rest of the time is seated. There is a nice savasana at the end.
Another plus- the DVDs are chaptered! His previous DVD set was not.
The clips on the web site http://www.progressivepoweryoga.com/9/index.html are quite useful if you are interested in this set.

I have the Progressive Power Yoga DVD Trilogy, but I wouldn't mind having a couple of additional workouts that would add a bit more variety.  My first question is, how different are the Sedona Experience DVD's from the Power Trilogy DVD's?  My second question is, how does the three DVD Sedona offering differ from the five DVD Sedona offering?

By the way, this is definitely the best workout that I have ever done, including free-weights, mountain biking, distance running, or even military fitness programs.  I started about a year and a half ago at age fifty-six, and I am more flexible now than when I was in my twenties.  I cannot do everything on these DVD's, and I may never do all of the asanas demonstrated, but I am doing much more than I believed I could when I started.  One real benefit is that my back is much stronger now, which really helps with my golf game and my skiing.  I also sleep better and have more general energy.  My only caution would be to start slow and lose the "competiviness" immediately; I over-reached in the beginning and almost hurt myself until I understood that this is more about "self experience" and patience than it is about "getting to the top or end."
• • • • •
Do you like the Sedona series better than the 3 volume set Progressive Power Yoga? If you already have PPY, is Sedona different enough to warrant a purchase and vice versa? If someone bought Sedona, should they to go back and order PPY? Thanks!
I haven't done the whole set yet and I'm not sure I would make a recommendation either way. For me, it was worth the purchase (even so far) because I do them. In Foundation - it was very similar to previous work but quicker, some different poses and the sequences were different. It's also chaptered. So if that is important to you, maybe. I know I'm not much help (What I'm really saying - is buy 'em all! )
• • • • •
Thank YOU
Thanks so much for the info...I have been considering getting these. I
would like to hear more of your reviews, when you have the time. I was
considering getting 3 of the Sedona's...but so hard to pick, hence waiting
for some reviews, to make a decision.
Wow, impressive, offering you Free shipping!
• • • • •
I did Culmination today which is 98 minutes. It moved even fast at times than Foundation. He did a lot of bend and straitening the knees in poses which made the practice tougher. There was a long section on inversions as well. There was a nice chakra savasana at the end. The Sedona scenery is absolutely stunning! I must visit that place.
• • • • •
I've been very tempted by Mark Blanchard's stuff. Two questions:
Would you recommend this new series or the previous trilogy? (Sadly, I can only afford one!)
Second, I know you said he is similar to Bryan Kest, and I'm assuming that means as far as the style of yoga practiced. However, how does he compare to Bryan as an instructor? Bryan is my favorite - I like his style, his way of constantly keeping me on track both in alignment and focus, the verbiage he uses (keeping my focus on me and what I'm doing/feeling and not alot of real spiritual, new age stuff), etc. I've only done a little Baron. Love his books, but haven't done enough of his video w/os to form an opinion as to whether or not I really like him. The stuff I've done has me thinking he's okay, but I prefer Bryan a little more. Do you think I'd like Mark?
TIA!
Hi
Trilogy or Sedona: I couldn't recommend one over the other but here are some things to consider:
- The trilogy is not chaptered but Sedona is
- The trilogy is all 1 1/2 hour practices while Sedona has 2 1 1/2 practices, one 48 min, and 2 1 hour so if time is a factor Sedona might be better
- the scenery in Sedona is spectacular.
Bryan vs. Mark: Again, I can't predict whether you'll like Mark based on the fact that you like Bryan. I used to love Bryan and when I first tried Mark I didn't like him at all. I later warmed up to the practices. The styles are somewhat similar. I suggest you look at all the clips on the website carefully.
• • • • •
I have Mark's Progressive Power Yoga dvd's and I just love them. I would like to only get three of the Sedona Experience. I know you proble love them all but which order would you rate them.
Thanks

I haven't done the middle three yet but Flow and Stretch are only one hour and Core is 45 minutes - this is the first time he has released something that short so that may interest you.
Foundations was the most like PPY and Culmination was the toughest of this set. I still think his most vigorous practice is his first release "The Power Within".
I'll report back on the others when I do them this week.
• • • • •
Hi -
Thanks so much for the reviews.
I just got mine (I really like Mark's Progressive Power Yoga ones). Now until I get home, I will likely spend the rest of the day trying to decide which one to try first They do look amazing though. I'll report back with my impressions.

I did Core. It's a 48 minute pratice that starts out with about 12-13 minutes of standing poses with vinyasa in between (chat-updog-downdog). Then there is about 15-20 minutes of tough yoga-style core work. There there is a shoulder stand sequence and very long savasna for the chakras. I'm pretty sure the shoulder stand and savasana are footage from previous practices. It didn't bother me and it flowed very well.
• • • • •
Thanks...interesting, i do love the nature sounds, and i think his voice
from the clips is very calming.
Core sounds tough...after you do them all, i will be interested in which one
was your fav!
• • • • •
I just received these in the mail and did "Flow" this morning. I really enjoyed it. Lots of Sun Salutations.
Some of the poses are done in a very dynamic way. For example, the extra chaturanga between upward dog and downward dog adds a new dimension. And the warrior sequence moves briskly. Mark must also like the crow pose. I think that if I do this set frequently, I will become a "crow master".
Other poses are held for a very long time -- Pigeon is held for a very long time near the end of the practice. Table (Purvottasana sp?) is held for 10 breaths (which felt like a long time for me). Also a nice shoulderstand sequence. The savasana seemed much longer than what I've encountered in other power videos.
Overall, I liked it.
• • • • •
Good morning -
I tried The Stretch this morning, and I had a really great time with it.
The practice starts with a slow warm up (typical for all Mark's videos, I think), then there are about 30 minutes of standing poses - sun salutations, Warrior sequences - some parts very unusual and really fun. Mark would go back and forth between moving really slowly and really fast a few times. There’s a brief, but challenging chaturanga sequence - Mark encourages trying to enjoy them and calls them "love-ups" - as opposed to push-ups After the standing poses there are some Backbends - Bridge, Camel, Wheel, then there are some sitting stretches and some twists, and a nice final relaxation.
The workout is still very much Power yoga style, but maybe just a little less challenging than others in this series. The time just flies by, however, as there’s so much variety, and the practice is so pleasant.
Overall, I am so pleased with the purchase of Sedona series - the scenery is gorgeous, Mark's instruction is superb. Additionally, what's really nice to see is that everybody is just having a wonderful time - the students look like they are really enjoying themselves, Mark is clearly having a lot of fun leading the workout. He's also very non-intimidating, continuously encourages you to work at your own level, do your best, etc. The students show modifications, too - for less flexible and less strong practitioners. A wonderful practice overall. I am very much looking forward to trying the others DVDs from this series.
• • • • •
Flow is again pieced together from Culmination and Foundations. It stitches together seamlessly. It's nice to have these shorter practices when needed. Flow is about the same intensity - maybe a bit harder - than stretch.
I'm amazed at the scenery -the picture is very crisp in these DVDs.
I would say my favorites are Foundation, Culmination, - with Core a close second.

I ordered three to begin with....and ordered the other two yesterday!
• • • • •
this place is so enabling; That is what worries me
which 3 and then will i want the other 2?! Did the ADORE code work, still
for a discount?! I know this was mentioned prior...but as time goes by, i
worry the code will change, especially if i decide to wait til May...B-day
gift. I know I am getting $ome.....so i could order now, right
I have enjoyed reading everyone's input....hope those of you, that just
received them and ordered, recently..will also add your thoughts!

I did the Foundation last night and it WIPED me out (in a good way). I went to bed at 9:30!
• • • • •
Love these!
It was shipped pretty fast--much faster than beachbody or WHFN. I did the Foundation yesterday and I am feeling it today!! This is great for me because I can't do everything but I can work up to it. I took a break from yoga classes for about 6 months. I wanted to get back into yoga but most videos out there aren't like a real class--these are. Plus, mark has the right voice for yoga--I know I'm picky but I can't stand if the instructor has an annoying voice.
So thanks for sending me in the direction of his website!!
• • • • •
I would love to buy a 3-pack but I think he may be too hard for a beginner, no?
I find his voice so interesting. Does anyone else think he sounds like he could be Christopher Walken's brother?

I just ordered "The Stretch" and it worked! Great incentive to try these! Wish I could've gone for the whole set!

Sedona Experience
I received my set on Friday. I am very impressed, considering I ordered on Wednesday.
• • • • •
I got these yesterday and previewed last night. I can't believe I've never discovered Mark Blanchard before. His teaching style is, IMO, fabulous! Usually I prefer music and voice over instruction but there was something about the way he handled the class that I found pleasing. And it was sort of fun to watch the non-yoga athlete struggle, since I struggle too. And the scenery of course is fabulous. I'm so glad I ordered these!
• • • • •
I just got "The Stretch" yesterday and previewed it...I agree, it looks fabu-loso! Can't wait to try it!

I have his original progressive Yoga and I love it! Don't know that I will spring for the Sedona series just yet, but this is my favorite instructor so far!!!!!
• • • • •
Just wanted to add that these arrived in Saturday's mail! I can't wait to try them. From reading the descriptions, I have a feeling I am really going to do The Flow and The Core most often.
That which doesn't kill me will only make me stronger.
• • • • •
Sedona series- great customer service!
I've been following this thread and broke down and made the purchase. I'm so happy I did, I ordered over the weekend and they were shipped out to me today. I processed the order twice both times getting a fatal error code so I didn't expect my credit card to be charged once let alone twice. Eric credited back my card and shipped out the dvds with a ups # first thing this morning. I'm very impressed!
It seems like years since my last post. (Not that I posted much anyway) I'm trying to get back on track and I remember that it was Mark's videos that seemed to do more for my body in a short period of time than any of the other's I tried around the same time period. I'm 3 years late meeting the goal I set for myself. Hopefully this time I wont allow life to get in the way.
They'll arrive just in time for my birthday!

new here
Hi , I'm new here, so nice to meet you everybody, I'm not the common fitness poster , I'm 24 year old male from Israel and I think I'm the only one in my country who actually uses exercise videos in the past year I bought almost 30 dvd's so I'm a serious junkie . I do mainly pilates and yoga because it's my favorite type of exercise.
Anyway to the subject , I just ordered the sedona experience yesterday and even got free shipping to Israel (which is quite costly) because the very nice Eric remembered me from my review on Amazon , can't wait to share my impressions about the set.

POWER YOGA CELEBRITY COMMENTS:

WARNING: THIS IS NOT YOUR MOTHER'S YOGA!
(although Mark's 68 year old mother does it daily!!)

I am willing to bet that you are wondering how a program that you think is simple bending and stretching can possibly burn 800 calories and leave bodies looking stunning in the process...am I right?  You look at the sculpted, slender physiques of our students and you wonder why Progressive Power Yoga is capable of modifying so many aspects of the way your body, mind and soul function… It starts with a simple desire to try.  99% of success is just showing up... and with yoga, that is all that it takes...a desire to try.

IT’S NOT YOGA PERFECT, IT’S YOGA PRACTICE.

Yoga is noncompetitive. My students arrive at the mat fresh, and ready to start each day
armed with what they are capable of doing on that day. That is why I created my three dvds
with rotating workouts that feature students of all capabilities practicing side by side.

My goal was to help you as a student to overcome your fear that you could never do it,
or that you could never be good enough—as that simply will NEVER be the case.

By doing repetitive workouts on a regular basis, your body will form muscle memory, hit a plateau and stop progressing.
With Progressive Power Yoga, each day you rotate the workouts so your body never hits muscle memory and it never stops progressing. That is why FITNESS MAGAZINE SAID –
“IN ROTATION, THESE THREE DVDS ARE THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE EXERCISE PROGRAM EVER!”

You simply will never need a gym membership again, nor will you need to spend countless hours on pilates machines…
or worse yet— punching and kickboxing into space and putting your joints at risk!

I say, CANCEL YOUR COSTLY GYM MEMBERSHIP!!! STOP THROWING YOUR MONEY AWAY!!! This program is far more comprehensive and will make you look much sexier than multiple reps on gym equipment. Plus with Progressive Power Yoga dvds, you will be substantially more flexible than with any other form of exercise.

You will sculpt, lean, sexy muscles
that stay in beautiful proportion with your body.
You will love watching your body tone, reduce dress or pants sizes and emerge more focused and more in control of the world around you. There simply is no other form of exercise that offers more benefits to your mind and body than yoga. Period. Not Pilates, Not Kickboxing, Jogging, Elliptical Training, Spinning...Nothing else compares. See the comparisons on our web site.

IT IS NO WONDER THAT 20 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES PRACTICE YOGA!

CONSIDER THE BENEFITS OF PROGRESSIVE POWER YOGA:

•    Sculpts Lean, Sexy Muscles
•    Burns Up To 800 Calories Per Workout
•    Burns Fat
•    Greatly Improves Concentration and Focus

I have been teaching yoga for 20 years and over the course of time, I have taken what was best of all the different forms that I had tried and merged them together into a program that is accessible to everyone…young and old, men and women. It is a program that works as much as you are willing to put into it. That is why we called it Progressive Power Yoga. It is more thorough, more dynamic and more accessible to all levels of students from first timers to long term practitioners.

The videos feature beginners, intermediate and advanced students, all practicing together...If you are a beginning or intermediate student when you start to use this program, you can focus on the students in the video who are practicing the postures that you will be capable of doing. Since the dvd features seven students at all times, you will be able to work out at your level while at the same time watching and learning from people at progressively higher levels. This will provide the inspiration for you to work at your own pace to achieve greater strength, flexibility and form. (many sample video clips may be seen on our website)  http://progressivepoweryoga.com/

That is the beauty of yoga...there is no competition and no expectation...
only a personal desire to arrive fresh at the mat and work at your own pace.

Rotate The Three Workouts On A Weekly Basis.

In a short amount of time you will see your body grow stronger, leaner, more toned and more flexible. Your stress will reduce. You will drop dress or pant sizes while simultaneously gaining mental clarity, boosting your immunity, your metabolism, and having fun!

Other repetitive workouts build muscle mass... then your body hits a plateau and stops progressing. I have created three exhilarating workouts that are intended to be rotated throughout the week so your body never hits a plateau in its development.

 KIM DELANEY Shares:
“Mark Blanchard has the most unique, energetic style of yoga I’ve ever experienced!
Fun and relaxing too!”

YOGA IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR PREGNANT MOTHERS (CERTAIN POSITIONS RESTRICTED)

“I had a 2-hour labor and that was it. One push, and I, and my doctor who does Mark’s tapes swore it was because of the DVD’s and doing Yoga and practicing up until the end. And here I am three weeks later and I almost got my tummy back.”
- Elizabeth Blanchard (Mark's Wife)

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Mark Blanchard and his Power Yoga for the past many years and I’ve seen people anywhere from their 20’s to their 80’s be able to use yoga to help them overcome or at least help improve their arthritis pain.”
- Dr. David Silver
- Chief of Rheumatology
- Cedars Sinai Medical Center

And Dr. Neal Elattrache is the most sought after Orthopedic Surgeon in Professional Sports:

“The approach that he’s able to provide in Yoga is a low impact approach that is not only able to work on the strength and endurance of core muscles of the body of the trunk, but also the necessary flexibility. In fact if you are working on strength training without good flexibility often times that leads to problems of injuries that we see. It does hit on the critical aspects that we’re looking for with regards to balance, endurance of trunk muscles, core strengthening and rehabilitation, and overall flexibility.
- Dr. Neal Elattrache
- Chief Surgeon and Partner
- Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Center
